Plural Nouns: Formation, Rules and Examples
There are two kinds of Noun Numbers:1) SINGULAR NOUNS
2) PLURAL NOUNS
1) SINGULAR NOUN:A noun that denotes one person, place or thing is called singular noun.
EXAMPLES:
Cup, class, bench, army, knife, foot, et cetera...
2) PLURAL NOUN:A noun that denotes more than one person, place, or thing is called plural noun.
EXAMPLES:
Cups, classes, benches, armies, knives, feet, et cetera...
FORMATION OF PLURAL NOUNS FROM SINGULAR NOUNS:
a) By adding '-s' in the end of singular nouns, and singular nouns which possess consonant in last alphabet of word.
EXAMPLES OF PLURAL NOUNS:
SINGULAR NOUNS---------------------------PLURAL NOUNS
Cow-----------------------------------------------cows
fan-------------------------------------------------fans
hill-------------------------------------------------hills
b) Nouns which end in 'y' and before 'y', a vowel comes then it'll be plural by adding 's' in the end of the singular nouns.
EXAMPLES:
SINGULAR NOUNS--------------------------PLURAL NOUNS
Day-----------------------------------------------days
key------------------------------------------------keys
toy-------------------------------------------------toys
c) Singular nouns can be plural nouns by adding 'es' in the end of the words ending with 's', 'es', 'sh', 'ss' 'ch', 'x' or 'z'.
EXAMPLES:
SINGULAR NOUNS--------------------------PLURAL NOUNS
Glass---------------------------------------------glasses
dish-----------------------------------------------dishes
bench---------------------------------------------benches
box------------------------------------------------boxes
d) Words ending with 'o' will be plural by adding 'es' in the end of the word.EXAMPLES:
SINGULAR NOUNS--------------------------PLURAL NOUNS
Mango-------------------------------------------mangoes
potato-------------------------------------------potatoes
e) Words ending with 'y' and before 'y' consonant comes then it'll be plural by adding 'ies' and by cutting 'y' from the end of singular noun.EXAMPLES:
SINGULAR NOUNS---------------------------PLURAL NOUNS
Baby----------------------------------------------babies
army----------------------------------------------armies
lady-----------------------------------------------ladies
f) Plural nouns are made by adding 'ves' in the of the word by removing 'f', 'fe' from the end of the singular nouns.
EXAMPLES:

half----------------------------------------------halves
life-----------------------------------------------lives.
