0 Conditional (General Truths or Guaranteed Results)

If + present simple 

Present simple 


Example : If this thing happens that thing happens 

That thing happens if this thing happens 

--- If you heat water, it evaporates. 

= You can also use When or whenever instead of If. 

--- When I am happy, I smile. 

I smile when I am happy. 

--- If I am sad, I eat chocolates

--- People die, If they don't drink enough water. 

--- If dogs get angery, they growl.

--- If you don't eat enough, you lose weight.

--- If British people get bored, they talk about the weather. 

For Imperatives 

--- If she rings the doorbell, tell her to go away!

--- Text me if you get lost! 


1st Conditional (Real World & Specific Situatioon)  

If + present simple 

will + infinitive 


Examples : If this thing happens, that thing will happen.

--- If we don't leave now, we will miss the train. 

--- If you study hard, you will pass the exam.

--- If I see my boss, I'll ask her. 

--- If it gets colder, we'll light a fire. 

--- I'll finish my painting If I have time. 

MODALS 

--- If we don't leave now, we might miss the train. 

--- If you study hard, you could pass the exam.

--- If I see my boss, I shall as her. 

--- If it gets colder, we should light a fire. 

--- I'll be able to finish my painting if I have time. 


2nd CONDITIONAL

If + past simple 

would + infinitive 

or

would + present continuous 

Examples : If this thing happened that thing would happen. 

--- If this thing happened, that thing would be happening.

--- If I won the lottery, I would buy a house in Barbados.

--- If he had more money, he would buy a boat. 

--- If I were you, I would stop poking the cat. 

--- If he were younger, I would ask him out. 

--- If I was taller, I would wear high heels.

--- If you were an animal, which one would you be? 

--- If I spoke French, I would be living in Paris.

--- If I had an exam tomorrow, I would be revising now. 


3rd CONDITIONAL (Talking about past)

If + past perfect 

would +

have +

past participle 


Examples : 

--- If this thing happened, that thing would have happened.

--- If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.

--- If we had left earlier, we wouldn't have arrived late.

--- You wouldn't be so tired if you had gone to bed earlier.





DEAR SIR 

1. Conditional Sentence

1. Present Indefinite Tense = Present indefinite or Future Indefinite 

--- If you touch a fire you get burned.

--- If baby get hungry, they cry.

--- If I study hard, I will pass my exam.


2. 2nd Conditional Sentence 

Past Indefinite Tense = Would/ Modal Verb 

--- If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house. 

--- If she were rich, she would travel the world. 


3. 3rd Conditional Sentence 

Past Perfect Tense = Would have + 3rd form of original verb

--- If I had not learnt English, I wouldn't have got this job. 

--- If you had come to me, I'd have helped you. 


Mix Examples :

--- If people complained, things would change. 

--- If he submitted the fee, the college would give him admission. 

--- If Sujata invites me to her birthday party, I will gift her a watch. 

--- If I had taken commerce in class, I would have become a CA.

--- When the sun goes down, It gets dark.

--- If you don't brush your teeth, you get cavity.

--- When you smoke cigarettes, your health suffers.
